PARKING FIT

Date:

Friday, 18 September, 2015

This week was packed full of Parking fitness across London and the Home Counties. We had our very first Park OFF in Waltham Forest, with Parkers showing us that nothing will stop them from training #EvenInTheWeTrain. We also held our first Hackney Steering Group Committee meeting and plan to roll these out to all boroughs in due course.

WALTHAM FOREST PARKED OFF!

Last Saturday despite the miserable start to the weather we got Waltham Forest Parkers together to compete in the 2015 Waltham Forest Park-Off! There were a few discerning faces as we started with a bleep test and burpee challenge, but Leyton Jubilee were strong competition from Kieon’s Lloyd Park! The wheelbarrow Races brought around a turnaround though with underdog Ridgeway Park coming not only 1st but also 2nd place in the heats, and Langthorne were showing their determination in the Tug of War, which ended up having numerous matches as coaches.

But there could only be one victor, and it was LEYTON JUBILEE! A huge congratulations to Sherene and the team, and to everyone who took part. We would love to hear if you would like this in your borough, let us know at getfitnow@ourparks.org.uk.

WALTHAM FOREST COACH OF THE YEAR

The deadline for submissions was last week so thank you to everyone who voted. The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony in November, for which Born will be attending and dusting off his Black Tie attire… we promise to keep you posted and Tweet live from the event!

BRENT NETBALL

Our netball sessions in West London have been so popular that we’re putting on two extra classes per week through the winter months – Wednesdays and Fridays at 6.30pm at Centenary Park.  It is a great way to get fit and meet your local community, and coach Rachel can’t wait to improve your ball skills and have some mini matches. Book now!

RUBGY WORLD CUP FEVER

With the Rugby World cup kicking off this Friday Our Parks will be joining in excitement with 'Rugby themed’ sessions on the Olympic Park from the end of September, which will include fusions of Rugby fitness and other classes – such as dance and boxing. Keep an eye on the website for further details and more info to come in our next newsletter!

PARKER OF THE WEEK!

Dee and Della from Houghton Regis in Bedfordshire have been nominated by their coach Belinda as this week’s Parkers of the Week! Belinda told us both

“Dee and Della have shown great motivation and dedication to their sessions and always give 100%, and I can really see how their hard work has paid off”

We wanted to say a big congratulations to them and well done for persevering through the miserable weather! Keep up the great work!

We will keep bringing you the latest updates from Our Parks and thank you again for being with us to share your Turn Up Tone Up Journeys.

Have a great weekend.
